Skyview Terrace is a small, upscale residential community on Madison’s west side. Highlands, one of the west side’s most exclusive neighborhoods, lies directly south of Skyview Terrace — and the city of Middleton buffers the community’s west and north borders. A greenway extends from Skyview Terrace to Skyview Park, where neighbors enjoy five acres of green space and playground equipment. From there, another greenway extends north to the Camelot Open Space along Lake Mendota’s shoreline. Marshall Park, located just north on Lake Mendota’s shoreline, boasts a sandy beach, boat launch, kayak and canoe rental, and sweeping views of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s forested campus across Lake Mendota. The neighborhood’s close proximity to University Avenue also simplifies travel to Downtown Madison and Middleton, which makes the city’s employers, parks and commercial areas just minutes from Skyview Terrace.

What Does the Neighborhood Look Like?

Skyview Terrace was developed as a residential community on 28 acres of rolling bluffs on Madison’s west side in the 1950s and ‘60s. Homes were built her on the Skyview Drive loop, which cuts down on traffic and helps foster a small-community feel. A variety of homes can be found in the neighborhood — including ranch, split-level and two-story styles. About 40 single-family homes are located in the neighborhood, and many are situated on large wooded lots that cover more than a half-acre. Attractive homes, central location and a small-community feel are the hallmarks of Skyview Terrace.

What’s Going on Nearby?

Skyview Terrace is located within minutes of Madison’s most popular commercial areas, parks, schools and employers. Owen Conservation Park, a 100-acre oasis of prairie land and forests with a network of trails that boast scenic overlooks, is about a mile south of the community. Downtown Madison is about six miles east of Skyview Terrace, and Middleton is just outside the neighborhood’s west and north borders. Close proximity to University Avenue, one of the area’s main traffic arterials and commercial corridors, also makes for easy travel in both directions. Commercial areas along Gammon Road and Mineral Point Road are about two miles south of Skyview Terrace, and Hilldale Mall is about three miles east of the community on University Avenue. Surrounding communities are nearby, too. Verona is about nine miles south, and Fitchburg is about seven miles south of Skyview Terrace.
