Why Do People Live Here?
Close proximity to Lake Mendota, Cherokee Conservation Park and Warner Park make Berkley Oaks a great northside neighborhood. Still, city plans are underway to make it even better. An expansive 10-year plan that was approved by the Madison City Council in 2009 adds green space, improves connectivity and brands the area as a northern gateway into the city. Northport Drive, which runs along Berkley’s Oaks’ southern border, saw expansive improvements under the plan. The plan also details modern architectural and landscaping standards in commercial areas and city right-of-ways. Footpaths, bike lanes and streetscapes added throughout the neighborhood improve safety and connectivity of pedestrians. City officials have targeted major renovations to Berkley Oaks’ Northside TownCenter with mixed-use development that includes multi-family dwellings, open spaces and plenty of shops and restaurants. Berkley Oak is a community on the rise.
